The Ritz

Well, sweeties, I had the pleasure of visiting the most renowned place in London today! I only went and dined at the Ritz!!!! Yep, there was little ole me in the fancy establishment actually finding myself critiquing the tea and sandwhiches! Shows I am visiting a lot of tearooms nowadays if I'm doing this at the Ritz!

Well, here's my photos and opinions for all they're worth...

Getting ready to The Lighthouse Family - made me even more excited for the trip. How amazing are the Lighthouse family by the way - I had totally forgot about them until the other day. If you do one thing tomorrow listen to this in the sun!

I usually hate it when the taxi's late - but today - who cares! Beautiful day to stand around taking some snaps with Anne. Anne is my neighbour by the way, who is the youngest bubbliest 87 year old going. The only difference between her and me is a number. She is so caring too and has this personality that I wish I had! On the journey as we chatted she said something that hit a chord with me. She said - If you want it, get it and don't ever regret it girl. Now this might seem like bad advice to some sensible folk out there, but me, I am an expert in convincing myself I deserve a treat so instantly nodded and grinned feeling a tad bit relieved after all the people in my life chanting ISA or STOP spending at me. Yesterday I needed that hot chocolate and croissant as it's a Friday and I need a pick me up at the end of the week. Last week, I was having a duvet day so needed to buy a million magazines. When in reality I don't need half of the things I purchase! But like Anne said, who cares! I couldn't agree more.

I went for a rose tea and tucked into the selection of sandwiches. The nice thing about the Ritz is they are not stingey with their sandwiches. They just kept coming, and coming! Smocked salmon was my favourite. They are quite plain and traditional but this was ok with me. I'd rather not max out before I got to the cakes.

The chocolate cake was so rich and dark. It was loved by all and by far my favourite part of the tea. This was then followed by a trifle  and lemon drizzle cake! Total over load of puddings but we couldn't resist - the lemon drizzle was scrummy and sweet on the outside, a little on the dry side inside but still goooood. I wasn't a fan of the trifle but I must have been wrong as Anne and Francesca was up in arms protesting its the best they'd tried.

After a few hours of fine dining we reluctantly left the premises and hopped in a taxi back to Waterloo. The journey passed Big Ben and Westminster Abbey - nice! I tried to get some good pics as we whizzed by them but may have failed there.

Unwilling to call it a night I relaxed with some wine at home. It was no good though. My stomach was about to pop and my pj bottoms was all I could think about. It was such a fun day and if your planning a hen do/special birthday I'd consider the Ritz as your venue for a memorable indulgent experience! Or if you just wanted to get your man in a suit and tie to drool over...? Suits are compulsory at the Ritz you know.

Konditor and Cook

Wow, I have actually gone and found thee best place to drink hot chocolate! Believe me when I say this, I have had plenty of mugs of hot chocolate from so many lush cafĂ©'s but this has to be my favourite place. Not too far from Waterloo, or in my case very far as P made me take the lead on the direction front this time. I think he found it rather amusing as I got my London A to Z out and lead us on a merry go round, but hey ho I got us there! It's on a cute little street which reminded me of the 1970's. Especially as it's residents clearly did too with their retro cars!

Anyway, back to the hot chocolate, it was creamy and actually tasted like warm melted expensive milk chocolate! Gorge! We opted for a caramel topped brownie to save for later and headed on our way out to embankment for a stroll. It's our last month of scrimping so we had a look out for free things to do in the next few weeks and put down the Tate and National gallery on the list for when we had more time next weekend.

Konditor and Cook has now opened many more shops but the original one that I visited in Waterloo is just a pop in a and take out shop so no place to sit down. The streets are really cute around so it's not a punishment!

I think I'm going back next week for these heart chocolates :) They look delish.

I hope one of my lovely readers gets to visit K&C at some point as that would make me very happy indeed!

Hope you have had a fab weekend like I have. I have been at my little cousins Christening all day and will post on some photos soon! He is so so cute and has hair and eyelashes that actually make me envious. But now, I need to cleanse my make up off and crawl into my bed for some beauty sleep! Nighty night.

Bea's of Bloomsbury - Movie night

The other night. P and I had the most awesome movie experience! I have always wanted to visit the cake shop called Bea's of Bloomsbury and while I was perusing their website I came across their pop up movie nights. I was sold by the following words 'American style Chilli Cheese Dogs, Jalapeno Chilli ,and Mushroom Mac'n'Cheese all to the sounds and sights of the classic themes of yester year'. Then I saw the old movie poster for Footloose and ran for my purse.

We queued up for one of Bea's peanut butter cupcakes and chocolate brownie with some diet coke. Fancy cupcake and diet coke only works when watching films under railway arches I suppose!

It was an odd mix of a railway industrial type of vibe with a mix of a girly tearoom atmosphere. Yes P was the only male, which he managed to use to his advantage by making me pinky swear to let him watch football while supplying him with copious amounts of food/beer at the weekend. I agreed of course and smiled sweetly. He has the memory of a goldfish.

I think I may have squealed when the famous beat of Footloose started to play!

Got to love the cringyness (think I just made up a word!) of this film. It's so bad, in a did he really just do that , it makes it sooo good. The whole lot of us burst into laughter on many occasions with Kevin Bacons bizarre camp dancing moves!

If you're from London or planning a trip soon check out Bea's movie pop ups coming soon throughout March and April. I am so up for a Grease movie night under the tracks again. If you do go, bring cash for food and lots of and lots of layers :).

Jolly at The Folly

Last weekend Jo and I found refuge in the oh so trendy bar called The Folly. Situated near to Bank it's the perfect city retreat! Its absolutely huge, with different seating areas for all types of guests (intimate dates, large parties, informal dining) and is the most stylish place I can think of to grab some comfort food. After the day we had had, you know those days when your carefully thought out plans turn out to be a bit of a fail, it was definitely the hug we needed!

I think our choice in pudd was very relevant. An old classic for two old chums! We have a lot of history and when we get together we easily digress back to the old days, reliving our childhood memories! Our era was the coloured hair mascara/Britney's first hit/skirt over trousers combo/recording the top 40 from the radio era. Such good times.

However, this time we spent more time chatting about our dreams and future plans and how we were going to make this year count. Life's too short to dwell on the past sometimes. The more you spend looking back the less chance you see the doors open before you. We conveniently decided that life is now going to be about; treating ourselves, holidays, less work, more play and more time spent with loved ones. Sounds good to me!

Le Chandelier - Dulwich

Le Chandelier - an enchanting and elaborate retreat in the middle of a less enchanting elaborate setting. When a friend told me to get my bootie down to Le Chandelier in East Dulwich as it's sooo me, I thought I would take her advice! I am a very good listener, that's my problem.

I was overwhelmed by row upon row of dream red brick abodes some people call home!

However, the road where this little beauty sits on isn't the prettiest around the area but should not put you off ladies and gents! As soon as you open the door you are struck with the most ornate display of chandeliers and cake stands showing off mouthwatering puddings!

Take a look at my pics. They do not give the place justice in my eyes.

Blue Sapphire Earl grey was very zingy!

Moroccan feel to the place added colour against the creams and whimsical feel of the place.

I was surprisingly on my best behaviour and ordered a salad. Why you ask? Well take a look. It was by far the nicest salad and should be at the grand total of £9.50. It was crayfish, avocado, mango and some creamy type dressing. To me I gained just as much pleasure out of eating this fresh salad as a chocolate brownie! We learn new things everyday, and all that.

After this rendezvous, it was just a sunbathe outside the picture gallery. We did have plans to go inside until we fathomed it would be a waste of the afternoon sun! Next time maybe...

Well this an enjoyable day. I can see myself coming back some time. Perhaps in Autumn to see the leafy tree lined streets. Oh, and to the gem on Lordship lane that has opened up my eyes to the world of interesting salads!
